aQWERTYon

aQWERTYon (pron: “accordion”) — explore music theory with your computer keyboard.

I led development during my time as a researcher for NYU Professor Alex Ruthmann’s Music Experience Design Lab (MusEDLab). Some of the things I worked on:

  • Record keystrokes and play them back with sample-accurate timing
  • Save Sessions and Takes
  • Toggle instruments between multiple voices, all synthesized by Tone.JS / Web Audio API
  • Change musical scales
  • Embed YouTube videos and synchronize playback for composing soundtracks
  • Send MIDI messages from aQ to other applications or websites. For example, here’s a video of music teacher Matt McLean using aQ to transcribe musical notation on the website NoteFlight).
